    Chornobyl NPP Director General Appointed

    On September 26, as per the Directive of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1033-r and Administrative Order of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management No. 210-25-OS, Mr. Serhii Oleksandrovych Tarakanov was appointed as Director General of the SSE Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

    Acting Head of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management Volodymyr Feshchenko introduced Mr. Serhii Tarakanov to the staff of the power plant and informed that a contract was signed with the new Director General, who has significant experience in power engineering.

    Serhii Oleksandrovych was born in Mykolaiv region on September 20, 1980. In 2002, he graduated from the Sevastopol National Institute of Nuclear Energy and Industry with a degree in Nuclear Power Engineering.  Mr. Serhii Tarakanov’s  total employment history is the same as his length of employment in the power generating industry and makes 23 years.

    After graduating from the university he worked as a turbine equipment operator, reactor department operator, and senior reactor department operator at the South Ukraine NPP.

    Chornobyl NPP Representatives Participated in the 69th Session of the IAEA General Conference

    Chornobyl NPP employees led by Acting Director General Oleksandr Titarchuk participated in the 69th session of the IAEA General Conference held in Vienna, at the Agency’s headquarters in September 2025.

    ChNPP specialists, who worked on the sidelines of the conference, took part in issue-related events and meetings. Delegations, experts, and the IAEA office visitors were provided with the most extensive information on the Chornobyl NPP activities. Current and prospective cooperation, problematic issues and ways to solve them were discussed with the IAEA officers and foreign delegations.

    EBRD delegation visited Chornobyl NPP industrial site

    On September 17, a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development consisted of the Director of the EBRD Nuclear Safety Department, Balthazar Lindauer, EBRD Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova, Arvid Tuerkner, Chairman of the Assembly of the International Chernobyl Cooperation Account (ICCA), Philip Bennett, and other EBRD staff, visited the Chornobyl NPP industrial site.

    Chornobyl NPP received a state-of-the-art dosimetric monitoring system

    In September 2025, as part of the implementation of Project U4. 01/18B ‘Modernisation of the Dosimetric Control system in the Exclusion zone and Environmental (radiation) monitoring at the Vector complex and the Buryakivka waste disposal site,’ the Individual Dosimetric Control Laboratory of the Radiation Safety Department received new equipment for IDC.

    Newly Appointed IAEA Technical Coordinator for Ukraine Meets with Chornobyl NPP Representatives

    On 5 August 2025, the State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Zone Management (SAUEZM) welcomed Mr Martin Gajdos, the newly appointed Technical Coordinator of IAEA missions to Ukraine. The meeting also brought together representatives from the Department of Nuclear Energy and Atomic Industry of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, alongside specialists from the Chornobyl NPP.

    The introductory visit aimed to build the foundations for further cooperation, provide an update on the current situation in the Exclusion zone, and outline the next steps for implementing international assistance programs. Particular attention was given to the aftermath of the Russian drone strike on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) at Chornobyl NPP.
